There are two locations to play tennis in Orange, High Plains Community Center and Peck Place School Their are 2 hard-courts at each location.
The courts are reserved from April through September, in the Parks and Recreation office, or by calling 891-2188 Play is scheduled on a first come-first served basis and reservations have priority over drop ins The courts can be reserved for 1 hour to play singles, or 2 hours for doubles play You may have only 2 reservations on file at any time.
Soccer Fields
There are 4 soccer fields located at Fred Wolfe Park on Hollow Road. These fields are reserved through the Orange Soccer Association. Drop in play is not allowed.
There is also 1 field available at Peck Place School, 2 fields at High Plains Community Center, and 1 field at Mary L. Tracy School. These fields may be reserved at the Parks and Recreation Office or by calling 891-2188.
We now have two "weather permitting" skating rinks in Orange.
The 'Nice Rink' located at High Plains Community Center Fairgrounds, across from the Pool parking lot in available until 9:30pm when the lighting is turned off. Children under 10 must have parental supervision on site. Hockey is not permitted, under any circumstances, at the HPCC rink.
Wrights Pond is monitored by the Parks and Recreation Department for ice safety. The ice is checked daily and there are signs posted indicating when it is safe to skate.
Snow removal equipment, other than a shovel, is not allowed on either rink.
There are 5 nature trail sites in Orange. They are open, without permits required, from dawn to dusk, everyday. Trail locations are; High Plains Community Center, the Paul Ode trails, the Housatonic Overlook at Tucker's Ridge, Fred Wolfe Park Trails on Hollow Road,the Race Brook Tract on Race Brook Road and at Camp Cedarcrest on Mapledale Road. Directions are available at the Parks and Recreation office.
There are 2 outdoor, unlit basketball courts at the High Plains Community Center. They are available on a first come - first served basis. Balls must be provided by players.
Baseball/ Softball Fields
The softball and baseball complex, located at Old Tavern Road park, is available only through reservationsfrom the Little League Association. Drop-in play is not allowed on these fields.
There are additional fields available around town; there are 3 fields at High Plains Community Center, 2 fields at Mary L Tracey School, 1 at Race Brook school, 1 at Peck Place School and 1 at Turkey Hill School. These fields may be reserved at the Parks and Recreation office or by calling 891-2188. No team may have more than 2 current reservations at a time.
The Mary L. Tracy Playground is located behind Town Hall on Tyler City Road. It is open Monday through Friday (when school is in session) from 2:00pm-dusk, Saturday and Sunday and non-school days from dawn to dusk.
The High Plains Tot Lot is located at the Community Center and is open Monday through Friday 2:00pm-dusk and all day on Saturday and Sunday. During the summer the Tot Lot is not open during the week (M-F)due to summer camp activities.
There are also playgrounds located at each of the elementary schools in Town. They are unavailable during the school day.
The Toddler Playroom is located at the High Plains Community Center in rooms 7 and 9.The playroom isdesigned and equiped for children ages 6 months to 4 years old. There are arts and craft supplies, games, ride-on toys and imaginative play areas to be used in an unstructured environment. The Playroomalso offersspecial events and holiday activities.Membership is required to use the rooms and can be purchased at the Parks and Recreation office.
There are 2 pavilions located at the High Plains Community Center. The pavilions have electricity and lighting available.They can be reserved at the Parks and Recreation office on a first come-first serve basis. Refundable deposit is required.
The Fitness Room is located at the High
Plains Community Center. The room contains cardiovascular
equipment such as stationary bikes, treadmills, rowing machines,and
stair climbers. It is also stocked with 6 weight machines,a
Universal Gym with eight stations and over 800 pounds in Olympic
free weights and dumbells.

Check the bulletin board outside the Fitness Room
for changes in the schedule.
There is a 9-hole disc-golf course set up
in the fields surrounding High Plains Community Center. The score cards and hole maps are available from the Parks
and Recreation office. A set of 'discs' can be borrowed
from the office but a driver's licience must be left in exchange.
High Plains Community Center has a graded
stone-dust finished walking track 4/10 of a mile long. It is located around the upper fairgrounds where the gazebo
is located. The track is available from dawn to dusk
for walking or running. Bicycles are not allowed on
the track and dogs must be leashed. There are dog-waste
stations located around the track.
